The Proteus can do all PVE and of all the T3GÇÖs I would suggest it has the most configurations Drones, Blaster or AB Rails, I do not feel it falls far behind the Tengu when facing Kin/Therm Enemies such as Serpentis.
Start with more tank and then reduce as you become more comfortable.
Use more than one mission ship, Proteus will complete all missions but the more you move off itGÇÖs racial resists the more tank and less gank you will need, an Ishtar or Domi on standby for missions against Angels or where there are long range webbing towers is very useful.
I would recommend focusing on Kin/Therm missions Serpentis , EOM, Guristas and against the Caldari State. Use something like this to start.

Should be capstable even with slightly lower skills and this is where the higher quality Microwarpdrive and repper helps. The Dual TE and TC with optimal range script are key Null range is 8.9+25km. Carry a few ammo types use Antimatter as standard but Null and Void have uses. Null can be used to pop frigates destroyers at range.
Alternatively swap the blasters to 250mm rails and TE to a Magstab and fit a RF Afterburner.
This is mine for Serpentis including things like World Collide, I use a two slot tank.
